Western Digital (WD) is one of the popular brand in Indonesia for computing devices, especially hard disk. But it turns out the product is not only that. WD still has other attractive product lines such as multimedia device called WDTV. Now, entering the second generation, WDTV now comes with a new name that the WDTV Live that has been equipped with Wi-Fi. Review WDTV Live

In terms of size, WDTV Live comes with a pretty mini packs and very save place. Port Connectivity was also very simple. At the back there are only 5 port connectivity comprising, AV Out port (composite cable), USB port, HDMI, Ethernet, Optical and DC-in to power. While at the front, is only one USB slot. And for navigation, you can only rely on the remote control that is included in the purchase package.

WDTV Live comes with a very minimalist interface and look beautiful. The menu options available include videos, music, service, games, settings, RSS, Files, Setup, and Photo.

Option menu service comes with a choice of social media services like Facebook, Accuweather, flickr, Youtube etc.. One less than the WDTV Live is the absence of the browser menu. Quite unfortunate given the additional browser at least to the WDTV Live users can instantly surf in cyberspace.

To use my WDTV Live to connect to the network using Wi-Fi connection. Setting it up is very easy, you just have to choose the settings menu and select the desired hotspot network.

When used, it has to move between the menu was quite slow and there was a little pause. It also affects the current input to enter text using its remote that it takes a bit of patience and time to adapt to operate. One trick to speed is to turn off the video preview while browsing files.

My advice if you want it easier to enter text input, using the keyboard is quite plugged via USB port or wirelessly. And for users of iOS devices like the iPhone and the iPod Touch, you can also avail the WDTV Live Remote app available in the AppStore to make your iOS device as a remote. Review WDTV Live

With the WDTV Live, your multimedia needs can be met thanks to compatibility with virtually all audio file formats, video and photos. All multimedia files can be played with streaming option between devices over the network or directly by plugging in an external HDD and flash directly to one of its two USB ports

As a network multimedia player WDTV Live is a complete package. The price offered is also relatively affordable at Rp 1.047 million. Although its interface feels a bit slow and not equipped with a browser to surf the internet, but its ability to play video files and support Full HD 1080p multimedia files such as video, audio, photo to make it eligible for consideration as a means of entertainment at home.

Keep in mind, this product is not for all users. You must have a Wi-Fi hotspot to make this. If you just want to stick your hard disk and play multimedia files on TV, we suggest you choose a non WD TV Live only.
